We celebrated Father's Day and my Dad's Birthday (which was Saturday) on Sunday. We headed to the 99 for lunch and then opened gifts and had cake and ice cream at home.

My share of the cake and ice cream. Yum! |
Later that day, CJ and I decided to cook up the Kolhrabi for dinner. I found a recipe online for
Kohlrabi fries so that is what we made. They turned out pretty good, and was a healthier alternative to french fries.
Kohlrabi is "a member of the brassica family, those nutrient-dense cabbages (as
well as kales, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower) whose
phytochemicals are highly regarded for their antioxidant properties."
Source.
Definitely a new taste for me. I read that Kohlrabi "taste[s] like fresh, crunchy broccoli stems accented by radish. The name
kohlrabi comes from the German kohl, meaning cabbage, and rabi, or
turnip."
I'm glad this vegetable was in our
farm share this week because otherwise I probably wouldn't have ever tried it. Another
perk of joining the CSA!
Do you have any Kohlrabi left over? My fave is to eat it raw!! Those fries look divine!
ReplyDeleteNo, we fried the whole thing! Haha I did try a little bite of it raw and it tasted like a raw potato! I think I need to get used to it.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try kohlrabi fries this week too! We got 2 from our CSA yesterday. Never had them before.. wish us luck!
ReplyDeleteNice! Yea, it's a good way to try them for the first time!
